comments and suggestion towards the subject "Critical Literacy"

Throughout the semeter, i have learnt many things in the subject entitled Critical Literacy. at first, the way i view it is as something that is really hard t understand. however, as time flies, i am getting the hang of it. i basically learn that to make a reseach, the content and the refered sources are credible enough to evaluate a certain situation, issue or problem.

The comments towards the subject is that the subject has a lot of twist and turns. it's hard to understand to be leanrt alone but with a few guidence, the findings will be clear. another comment is that the subject is bascally literatue, so any percpective is not wrong, however it is also not right. therefore, it becomes hard for me to differentiate between a valid and invalid answer.

The suggestions that i could give is that is would be better if the text book would have n exact complete page number. it would be easy for us students to refer. next is that it would be better if mass lecture is not coonducted. it limits the students reach to ask questions.

my view

"the body is tthe greatest possession, the mind is the greatest treasure and the spirit is the greatest companion".

how do i see the above statement?

I see the above statement as a very good way in describing the three main sources in life which are the physical, mental and spiitual. it is true that the body is the greatest possession because the word "possession" itself means the state of having, owning and controlling as for the body is what a person owns, and control. without the control of the body, no living being can move and without any movement, no progress will be done in any aspect.
next is the mind where it is stated that it is the greatest treasure. yes, the mind is full of mysteries. to solve the riddle of the brain, a person is required to focus a lot in order todig up the treasure that is known in thi context as idea, solutios and imagination. having the knowledge leads an individual to overcome many curcumstances as for it is a treasure to overcome many problems. the more preacous the treasure is, the more dangerous the booby traps are. therefore, the more the valuable the knowledge is, the more the easier to overcomoe big and hard hurdles. that is why the mind is the greatest treasure.
last but not least is the spirit. It is stated that the spirit is the greatest companion. yes, i agree with thid statment aswell. it is because that the spirit is the one that determines a person will and won't. it is what motivate a person or also could be said as the person's common sense.

what do i think of "money can buy happiness"?

Based on my opinion, money can buy happiness as for having money doesn’t mean to keep but also to give. To give help and provide people with solution is an action that could make the contributers feel happy and blessed. Therefore, having money is the main key in doing this. According to a professor in Stanford University (J.F. Francis, September 2013), “ Witness Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, two of the wealthiest people in the world. On a March day in 2010, they sat in a diner in Carter Lake, Iowa, and hatched a scheme. They would ask America‘s billionaires to pledge the majority of their wealth to charity. Buffet decided to donate 99 percent of his, saying, "I couldn‘t be happier with that decision." This shows that the more the money an individual possesses, the more chanes he gets to spread happiness. Not to say that only money can buy happiness, but it is that money can buy happiness too.

Besides that, there is a saying, “nobody lose anything from giving”. This phrase means the whole idea of charity. Charity does not have to be in a form of money. However, every items and energy is there because of the money. By having money, it is more possible to hve a higher chance in doing more charity that gives not only the contributer happiness but the people receiving the charity aswell. According to (J.F Francis, September 2013), “Investing in others can make individuals feel healthier and wealthier, even if it means making yourself a little poorer to reap these benefits”. This clearly clarify that by having money, we can buy happiness.

What do i think about stereotyping?

yes, it is unavoidable because a person belief is mainly influenced by the environment. however, it can be reduced if most people should remember that what you see may not be the truth. a person may be drinking a water, but he may not be thirsty. he might be finishing his daughter's water so that it won't go to waste. there is a saying from Dr Rosliza, a cognitive psychologist in University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), "what you look like is not what matters, it's what you do and how you react is really what shows who you are". therefore, in my opinion, stereotyping is not a good thing to do. it's just a waste of time and energy. instead of stereotyping, I would rather go and ask whether if an individual is okay based on their behaviour.

My expectation(s) before learning CL and my experience after learning CL

For at first, I heard about Critical Literacy when i was in the third semester in Diploma in Communication in KPMIM. I heard it from my seniors. i asked around to know whether it's as hard a literature that I learn in the third semester. turns out that most of the seniors said that it was hard since you really have to put more than 100% focus on the subject. my senior also said "you will have to really look into the rule of ten, since Critical Literacy is really all about the rule of ten from the beginning of the semester till the very end".

secondly, my experiences. yes, it is without a doubt a very hard subject because the perception of a 150 student is never the same unless a discussion is done. to have the exact same words and sentences in a review or a research towards a text or any literacy figure separately, it is impossible. that is the hardest part. I started learning this subject really vividly. it was a very foggy scene for the early chapter. however, with guidance from our most dedicated lecturer. I am getting the hang of it. my hopes for this subject is that so that this subject may continue on because it may be hard. However the skills and knowledge on how to evaluate an information is very good and effective.
